Alpe di Siusi - a real hiker’s paradise
From our hotel you can easily reach the cable car (7 mins walking distance), which will take you to the highland pastures of the Alpe di Siusi quickly and comfortably in 15 minutes. This unique nature paradise in the heart of the Dolomites offers more than 300 km of hiking, trekking and Nordic walking trails as well as via ferratas to be discovered alone or with experienced local guides.

Siusi: Great Laranz circuit
Start from Siusi and walk up towards the small church of S. Valentino and the hamlet Zonner/Singer. Once there, cross the road to the Alpe di Siusi and continue your pleasant walk over a lush meadow to the ancient pagan cemetery (1155 m). A large country lane will now take you down to the Kachlerhof, by the Stampfeter Hof and to the road to Castelrotto. Cross the road to reach the beautiful spot of the Lanzin farms (path no. 5). After the last farm, the Außerlanziner Hof, follow an even forest path west. Path no. 5 continues to your left and leads into a large pinewood covering the porphyry head of Laranz (highest point: 1191 m). The area has been inhabited for many centuries: several traces of large fortified settlements have been found here. A network of thousand small paths and tracks cross the area; path no. 5 mainly follows the western limit of the head of Laranz through a partly thick and shady and partly sparse wood, rising and sinking with the changing geography. After half an hour path no. 5 turns right and reaches a beautiful panoramic point at the border of the porphyry rock, known as “the king’s observation point”. From this high point you will see the ruins of Castle Aichach near S. Osvaldo, as well as the villages of S. Costantino and Fiè. The way back leads past the large Laranz farm (1106 m), which stands alone amid large fields and was recently refurbished in the style of a hunting lodge (battlements, chapel). Finally, walk down to the road to Castelrotto and follow it back to Siusi.

Alpe di Siusi: To the “witches’ benches” on Mount Bullaccia (2174 m)
Choosing the shortest and easiest route walk south over the sunny grassland to the highest point with its spectacular panorama, which has nothing to envy the views from some of the higher peaks. The beautiful circuit starts from the top station of the cable car and following a large path reaches a small relief (on the left hand side below the path lies the Dibaita hut). Now continue on the right through steep meadows to the Bullaccia hut (2119 m) and further north over the wavy pastures to the long Bullaccia mountain ridge. The road follows a rocky side with a spectacular view and brings you to the famous “witches’ benches”, basalt columns of different sizes created by lava that was cooling down slowly. The local tradition goes that witches used to meet up here with the devil and demons to hold nightly dancing orgies. Before leaving the mountain ridge take a last look at the basalt columns of the witches’ mountain: it is easy to understand how these strange formations, well known in Iceland but quite rare in the Dolomites, could stimulate the imagination of the early local inhabitants. The path now continues through lush meadows and leads first to the Arnikahütte, then on the western border of the Bullaccia through unspoilt nature. Through a vegetation of single Swiss pines, juniper, rhododendron and pasqueflowers you will get back down to the starting point.
